Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length:  21″ – Learn what size is right for you here.Opens in a new tab.

This is a tall toptube.

Perfect for riders that are between 5’8″ to 6’2″

B: Chain Stay Length: 12.75” – Learn About Chain Stays HereOpens in a new tab.

This is a medium chain stay designed to balance tech and flow riding.

C: Head Tube Angle: 75° – Learn About Head Tube Angles HereOpens in a new tab.

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.75″

F: Stand over height: 8.5″

This is a medium standover.

A tall standover gives you more stability and will make bars, and t-bogs easier.

2020 Fiend Type O XL Price

It is good that the type O XL only costs $430. But I still think that it is pretty overpriced.

2020 Fiend Type O XL Quality

Here’s what is low quality about the bike:

  • Not full chromoly frame
  • Single Wall rims
  • No pegs
  • Unsealed front hub
  • Weak bars and forks

Highlights

Under $500

For a lot of kids and parents, $500 is a reasonable price for a bmx bike. A study shows that parents are spending around $422 per child for Christmas. So a bike around this range will help get kids into bmx.

Lowlights

The frame isn’t full chromoly.

You can read about the difference in chromoly and hi-tensile here.Opens in a new tab. Basically, hi-tensile steel will bend over time. That’s why I recommend full chromoly, all of the time.

Buy if you are learning:

  • Bars
  • 180
  • small airs/transfers
  • x-up rides

Don’t buy if you are learning:

  • Whips
  • Big 360’s
  • Big drops

2020 Fiend Type O XL Conclusion 🤩

I really don’t think this is a great bike. I have seen lots of other “XL” bikes with better quality for the same price. While I like the idea behind this bike, it’s too overpriced.
