2021 Wethepeople Versus Review

Wethepeople designed a really good bike for mid to high-level riders with a park focus. The geometry is aggressive and set up so you can spin like mike spinner himself. With two pegs, this bike is still lightweight at 26.74 lbs.

Overview

An unstoppable skatepark machine! The Versus features geometry borrowed from our Message aftermarket line allowing it to shred transitions and skateparks unlike anything else. We added a sealed SALT PLUS Geo rotor setup with dual cables to give the Versus plenty of braking power and performance. Contra pedals, super lightweight Mirage tires, and a Unify combo seat from ECLAT to help round off one of the most PRO bikes in our 2021 line up.

Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length:  20.65″ – Learn what size is right for you here.Opens in a new tab.

Check the size guide to see if its right for you..

Getting a top tube that is taller than suggested will make the bike feel more controlled and less responsive

Getting a top tube size that is smaller than normal will make the bike feel a lot more snappy and responsive.

B: Chain Stay Length: 12.75″ – Learn About Chain Stays HereOpens in a new tab.

This is a short chainstay.

A short chain stay makes the bike feel twitchy. Spins will be easy, but airing and jumping might feel hard to control.

A long chain stay will make the bike feel really controlled. Spins will feel sluggish, but manuals and air tricks will feel nice because it will be more stable.

C: Head Tube Angle: 75.5° – Learn About Head Tube Angles HereOpens in a new tab.

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71.5°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.55″

F: Stand over height: 7.75″

This is a small standover.

A small standover makes tailwhips and technical tricks easier. But will make bars harder since there is not anything to pinch.

Bar Geometry – Learn more hereOpens in a new tab.

G: Rise: 9″

Riding a tall rise, will give you more leverage on the bike. Making it easier to pull back and lift the front wheel up.

H: Width: 29.25″

This is a medium width.

Narrow bars make barspins easier.

Wide bars give you more control and stability when steering.

I: Backsweep: 11º

What does backsweep do?

As far as I know, there is a sweet spot for backsweep. Too much will make the bike feel weird, and too little will make the bike unstable. It seems like the sweet spot is around 11º to 12º. If you need something a little more aggressive and straight feeling, go for 10º, but only do this if 11º is uncomfortable.

J: Upsweep: 2.5º

This is a normal upsweep!

What does upsweep do?

There is a lot of discussion about 1º upsweep vs. 4º upsweep. Some people are running experiments and testing if the greater upsweep will make drops feel better. It seems like a lot of street riders run 4º to 5º upsweep. This helps for wrist pain and lessens the impact of big drops.

Price

The 2021 Wethepeople versus costs just under $700.00. This is a really high price but for a high-level park bike it seems priced just right. This price range is very similar to flys 2021 line, and the bike competes with the 2021 FlOpens in a new tab.y Sion in terms of price and quality. I understand this is a lot to spend on a bike but if you need a really high-quality park bike you’re going to have to spend about this much.

Quality

Most of Wethepeople’s bike line consists of really high-quality bikes. The 2021 Versus is no different. It includes for chromoly frame Forks and bars. Along with important aftermarket Eclat and Salt parts. You could tell that a lot of thought went into developing this bike since it really is designed to last.

Buy if you are learning:

  • 360
  • 180
  • bar spins
  • tailwhips
  • high-level park/dirt
  • high airs
  • 540

Don’t buy if you are learning:

  • Good for any trick

Conclusion

Last year the Wethepeople Versus made a lot of appearances in my free bike recommendations. I was very excited to see the 2021 Versus was still the high-quality park machine that I expected. This bike is perfect for a rider who’s already doing some pretty high-level tricks but sadly their old bike is starting to break. They’re shopping for a brand new bike with really high quality because they plan on progressing to the next level. The versus is the bike to take you to that next level.

However, the park-specific geometry is going to make progressing in street and flowing dirt a little bit harder. So keep that in mind and make sure you’re set on being a really good park rider.

Douglas Laird

My parents bought me my first BMX bike in 2011 and it changed my life. This bike has taken me all over the world and introduced me to cool places and cooler people. My goal is to help get 1,000,000 people into BMX so they can experience the joy and freedom that comes from a progression based sport.
