2021 Stolen Heist Review

The 2021 Stolen Heist is a borderline mid-level bike, for a good price. Most of the frame is chromoly and the rims are double wall. Overall the Heist will work well for new riders who want to progress to a mid-level it comes in two colors and weighs 25lbs.

Overview

The 2021 Stolen Heist offers pro-level features and performance at a moderate price. The frame is constructed from 4130 Chromoly making this bike strong and light. The Heist comes equipped with lots of aftermarket parts and its semi-aggressive geometry favors more experienced riders. Fully-sealed bearings on everything except the pedals ensure that this bike rolls smoothly. The Fiction Atlas Tires provide the grip that will give you the confidence to attempt that next-level trick. The 2 Shades Of Grey color scheme is like a cloudy day in Seattle but without the rain and cold. With a top tube length of 21.00″, this bike will fit most riders from 5’10” to 6’3″.

Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length:  21″ – Learn what size is right for you here.Opens in a new tab.

Check the size guide to see if its right for you..

Getting a top tube that is taller than suggested will make the bike feel more controlled and less responsive

Getting a top tube size that is smaller than normal will make the bike feel a lot more snappy and responsive.

B: Chain Stay Length: 13.2″ – Learn About Chain Stays HereOpens in a new tab.

This is a medium chainstay.

A short chain stay makes the bike feel twitchy. Spins will be easy, but airing and jumping might feel hard to control.

A long chain stay will make the bike feel really controlled. Spins will feel sluggish, but manuals and air tricks will feel nice because it will be more stable.

C: Head Tube Angle: 75° – Learn About Head Tube Angles HereOpens in a new tab.

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.75″

F: Stand over height: 9.25″

This is a tall standover.

A tall standover makes your seat higher up and will allow you to pinch it easier when learning barspins.

G: Rise: 9.25″

Riding a tall rise, will give you more leverage on the bike. Making it easier to pull back and lift the front wheel up.

H: Width: N/A

This is a wide width.

Narrow bars make barspins easier.

Wide bars give you more control and stability when steering.

I: Backsweep: N/A

What does backsweep do?

As far as I know, there is a sweet spot for backsweep. Too much will make the bike feel weird, and too little will make the bike unstable. It seems like the sweet spot is around 11º to 12º. If you need something a little more aggressive and straight feeling, go for 10º, but only do this if 11º is uncomfortable.

J: Upsweep: N/A

This is a normal upsweep!

What does upsweep do?

There is a lot of discussion about 1º upsweep vs. 4º upsweep. Some people are running experiments and testing if the greater upsweep will make drops feel better. It seems like a lot of street riders run 4º to 5º upsweep. This helps for wrist pain and lessens the impact of big drops.

Price

For $459 you get a pretty solid bike. This bike has mostly chromoly and double wall rims which make it better quality than a lot of the beginner level bikes out there. I think this price is OK. It’s not necessarily overpriced but it isn’t a super good deal either. I think you could find something like the 2021 Kink whipOpens in a new tab. for around the same price and it has better quality.

Quality

Like I mentioned before, it is pretty good quality. The Stolen Heist includes quality that I look into when I’m classifying a bike as mid-level. however, the quality just isn’t fully mid-level. I’d really like to see a full chromoly frame for this price. Because what happens with a tri-moly frame is it the back end bends as you learn how to spin.

Buy if you are learning:

  • Manual
  • 180
  • Bunnyhop
  • x-up
  • basic park jumps
  • small 360
  • no handers

Don’t buy if you are learning:

  • big 360 drops
  • dirt riding
  • bar spin
  • tailwhip
  • big drops

Conclusion

So I do like the 2021 stolen Heist. The only thing is it just isn’t necessarily special. It’s a beginner level bike that cost $459, it’s almost a mid-level bike but not quite. There are a lot of bikes like this in the same price range, so it doesn’t really make it stand out. The bike is designed for a rider who’s been riding for a little bit and has some basic bike control and some basic tricks. The 21-inch top tube means it’s better for taller riders and the longer chainstay makes a bike more flowy feeling and less responsive.
