During my youtube lives I get a lot of questions regarding shin guards and knee pads. It’s always a smart idea to seek protection for your knees and shins since pedals have the tendency to absolutely destroy them.

Fuse Protection makes the best protective gear on the market. Their Fuse Echo knee/shin Combo pads are the best pads you will get to protect your knees and shins. At around $100 it is a high price to pay for protection, but they are so worth it.

Let’s go over some different options and discuss which one is right for you.

1. Fuse Echo Knee/Shin Combo

From Fuse

The best knee/shin pads of all time are the fuse echo knee/shin pad. It might seem crazy to spend over $100 to protect your legs. But why would you skimp on quality? Fuse offers 3 knee shin/combo options and the Echo is the best due to the insane amount of protection, attention to detail, and comfort.

Price

Fuse Echo knee/shin combo pads cost anywhere from $107 to $114 depending on where you get them from. Most BMX pads cost less than $70 or so. However, these Echo pads really are the top of the line and worth every penny if you are serious about your protection.

Protection

My favorite part about these pads is the fact that they cover your whole leg. The Echo knee/shin pads include a fully protective knee pad, a shin pad, a shin pad on the inside of your shin, and ankle pads. Everything except the knee pad is a “hard shield” so your legs are protected by a solid piece of plastic under a layer of foam. You literally do not feel impact.

Features

  • Combo design with full shin protection
  • Tough and durable Cordura and Duratex outer fabric
  • Sharkskin neoprene gripper to prevent pad slip
  • Articulated whip pads
  • Extra side impact padding
  • Adjustable ankle pad for improved fitting
  • Fully removable ankle section

A big question with knee/shin combos is “how do they fit?” and fuse answers this buy making their safety gear very adjustable. These pads include Velcro straps that allow you to easily change positioning. The ankle pads can be moved lower or higher based on the riders needs and they incorporate Sharkskin neoprene on the inside of the pad which keeps the pads from slipping.

Weight

All of that protections comes at a cost. The Fuse Echo knee/shin combo pads weigh 890 grams, which is 1.9 pounds. This is almost the weight of a pineapple. So imagine riding your bike with half of as pineapple strapped to each leg…

Who is it for?

The Fuse Echo Pads are for serious riders who want to be protected against some hefty crashes. They are heavy and expensive but they offer the most protection when compared to any other pad. These pads are what the pros ride and for a good reason.

2. Fuse Alpha Knee Pads

(Most Affordable Option)

The best BMX knee pads are the Fuse Alpha Knee pads. They provide topnotch protection without sacrificing comfort. These knee pads are made of superior quality duratex neoprene so longevity won’t be a problem. They also looks very modern and stylish unlike other knee pads which look very bulky.

Price

The Fuse Alpha Knee Pads cost anywhere from $57 to $59. If you are looking for the best BMX kneepads, then these would be a very good deal for its price range. These will last you a long time and will protect you from any unwanted injuries. Why go cheap and buy the low-quality ones when you can buy the best BMX kneepads which will last years?

Protection

The Fuse Alpha Knee Pads are made out of duratex neoprene for maximum airflow for your knees. The inner section is made of sharkskin neoprene which prevents the pads from slipping off your knees and causing unnecessary accidents. The outer layer is made using a nylon hard cap and the inner layer consists of a foam padding which will greatly minimize the impact to your knees.

Features

  • Durable Duratex knee cap outer material
  • Extra side padding areas
  • Sharkskin neoprene gripper to prevent pad slip

What makes this the best BMX kneepads is its ability to stay in place. There’s nothing more annoying than having to re-adjust your kneepads because they keep slipping off. With the sharkskin neoprene material, you won’t have to worry about it staying in place. The side padding also makes sure that your entire knee is covered and not just the front part.

Weight

The Fuse Alpha Knee Pads weighs 375g or .8 pounds. It is lighter compared to other knee pads. In contrast, it is as heavy as a box of cereal. Another reason why I consider this is the best BMX kneepads. It is very light for the amount of protection that it can offer.

Who is it for?

The Fuse Alpha knee pads are a good choice if you need some strong knee pads ar a fair price. There are lots of knee pad options and some will be cheaper. But these offer the most protection for the cost. I personally wear these knee pads when I ride and have never had an issue.

3. Fuse Omega Knee Pads

(Most Protective Option)

Another good option is the Fuse Omega Knee Pads. These offer more protection but cost much more. I really only recommend these for riders who are taking some serious crashes. If you are just a hobbyist BMX rider and don’t find yourself crashing too often, then maybe the Fuse Omega Knee Pads aren’t for you. There are other knee pads that cost a decent amount of protection at a lower cost. This one is the best BMX knee pads when it comes to protection because of the materials that were used to design it.

Price

The Fuse Omega Knee Pads costs $96.99 in the United States. If you are a hardcore BMX rider, then you need the best protection. You deserve the best BMX Knee Pads. It may be pricey, but the price equates to the reliability and quality that this product offers.

Lycra and Kenesio were used for this resulting to great compression and helps combat muscle fatigue. Sharksin neoprene was also used to prevent it from slipping off place when there is movement on the knees.

Weight

The Fuse Omega Knee Pads weighs 290 grams or .6 pounds. This is one of the reasons why it is one of the best BMX knee pads, I love how well it protects you without being heavy and bulky like competitor knee pads. This is as heavy as a small bottle of Nutella and while wearing this, it won’t be bothersome unlike the cheaper alternatives.

Who is it for?

Only serious riders should spend this much on a set of knee pads. They offer the most protection, but cost so much. If you don’t see yourself crashing and landing on your knees too much… go with the Alpha knee pads. If you are starting to progress FAST and need something to save your knees when you have a crash, these are for you.

Another good choice for a protective set of shin guards is the Fuse Alpha Shin pads. (Make sure you get the pads with the ankle and whip pad!!!!) These shin guards provide massive protection even for those extreme BMX riders.  These are the best BMX shin guards in terms of protection. I wouldn’t have to worry about crashes because these shin pads fully cover your shin. Say goodbye to pedal bite.

The Fuse Alpha Shin Guards costs $38-$49 depending on where you get them from. They’re not the cheapest shin pads out there but why not invest in safety and protection?

Protection

The Fuse Alpha Shin Pads uses perforated neoprene with air plush lining together with super stretchable neoprene straps. This protects every part of your shin, including the inner part from catching whips. You will be fully covered in these.

Features

My favorite thing about the Fuse Alpha Shin Guards is the fact that they protect your shins without slipping around. They stay in place after a whole day of riding. I also love the very breathable perforated neoprene and Duratex material which makes air circulate in and out of the shin pads.

Weight

The Fuse Alpha Shin Pads weigh 445g or .98 pounds. It may be heavier compared to other shin guards. But with the materials it’s made of, the amount of protection it offers, and the comfort it gives make it a very good deal.

Who is it for?

These Alpha Shin guards are for the progressive BMX rider on a budget. Other shin pads cost twice as much and offer similar protection. But these have two different aspects of protection for only $45. You will be safe on the bike, and it won’t break the bank.

Conclusion

In all reality, the best safety gear is the safety gear that you actually wear. While I would love for everyone to get the echo 125 combo pads, if you don’t plan on wearing it, don’t get it.

The Alpha pads are the pads that I currently ride, and I love them even with minimal protection. Only you know the level of safety that you need, and you can make the best decision.
