Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length:  20.75″ – Learn what size is right for you here.Opens in a new tab.

Check the size guide to see if it’s right for you..

Getting a top tube that is taller than suggested will make the bike feel more controlled and less responsive

Getting a top tube size that is smaller than normal will make the bike feel a lot more snappy and responsive.

B: Chain Stay Length: 13.65” – Learn About Chain Stays HereOpens in a new tab.

This is a LONG chainstay.

A short chain stay makes the bike feel twitchy. Spins will be easy, but airing and jumping might feel hard to control.

A long chain stay will make the bike feel really controlled. Spins will feel sluggish, but manuals and air tricks will feel nice because it will be more stable.

C: Head Tube Angle: 75° – Learn About Head Tube Angles HereOpens in a new tab.

This is an Average headtube angle

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.8″

This is a HIGH bottom bracket

A low BB height will make the bike feel more stable since the height of your pedals and cranks are close to the ground.

A tall BB height will make the bike more snappy and responsive since you will be standing higher up off the ground.

F: Stand over height: ??

Cult doesn’t tell us what size the standover is…

A low standover will make tailwhips easier, but barspins harder.

A tall standover gives you more to pinch and grab when doing barspins & t-bogs.

Bar Geometry – Learn more hereOpens in a new tab.

G: Rise: 9″

This is an average rise

Riding a tall rise, will give you more leverage on the bike. Making it easier to pull back and lift the front wheel up.

H: Width: 30″

This is an average width

Narrow bars make barspins easier.

Wide bars give you more control and stability when steering.

Dougsterbob Score

Now everything above the line is pretty basic info. I break down the specs, geometry and some highlights. But that doesn’t really help you find the right bike. So I created the Dougsterbob Score.

The scores for this bike are a result of comprehensive testing on the product. Every aspect of this bike has been carefully considered and compared to other BMX bikes. These scores will allow you to make a smart and confident decision when purchasing the bike.

What is it?

The Dougsterbob Score is taken from Doug Demaro’s “Doug Score” (He already had the name so I had to get creative with mine haha) Anyway, this assigns a score to the bike based on 20 different aspects. This way you will know exactly what this bike is good for and how it holds up.

Dougsterbob Value Factor

Value Factor: 11.60

Is the Cult Control a good value?

The Cult Control Scored an 11.60 for the Value Factor. This means that the Cult Control is good value. When you spend your hard-earned money on this bike, you can be sure that it is going to a high-quality bike that is definitely worth the price.

You can spend a little bit more and get the better quality Cult Devotion which has a Value Factor of 11.93.

Is the Cult Control a good bike?

The Control is a good bike. For only $500 you get something that not many other companies can compete with. It has a full Chromoly frame, fully sealed bearings, and a double-wall rim. For a beginner to the mid-level rider, this is a great choice.

Riding it at street spots

Street Score: 4.67

The Cult Control scored a 4.67 in the street section. Sadly, the Control does not come with pegs or hub guards which reduced its street cred drastically. The high-quality nature of the Control gave it some additional points since it can hold up to hefty street riding. All you need to do it is slap on some grind sticks. (pegs)

Is the 2022 Control for street riding?

The Cult Control is not classified as “street specific”. It’s actually a little better for riding dirt jumps. If street riding is your calling, skip the Control and get something like the WTP Reason or the Kink Switch.

Riding it at the Skatepark

Park Score: 3.33

The Control scored a 3.33 in the park section. It is not a really responsive bike and it is actually impossible to put a gyro on the Cult Control. How frustrating. There are a lot of things that the Control needs to earn some more park points.

Is the 2022 Cult Control good for riding skateparks?

No, the Control would not be the best choice if park riding is your main goal. You have much better options for park riding. The Control is more well-rounded for riding a little bit of everything. Check out the Wethepeople Versus to see a park-specific bike.

Riding it at the dirt jumps or pump track

Dirt Score: 5.38

The Control scored a 5.38 in the dirt section. The long stable geometry on the Cult Control gives it the ability to handle high speeds often seen at the trails. It also has a cassette and not a freecoaster which makes the gearing better set for the dirt.

Check out the WTP Revolver to see a dirt-specific bike. (Check it out hereOpens in a new tab.)

Is the Cult Conrol good for riding dirt jumps and pump tracks?

The Cult Control is best geared for riding dirt jumps and pump tracks. But like I mentioned earlier, it is a well-rounded bike for all types of riding.

Quality Score

Quality Score: 5.80

What about the Quality?

The Control scored a 5.8 in the quality section. It’s important for anyone with a riding ability to consider getting a bike with this level of quality or above. You do not want your bike to fall apart on you after only a few months of riding.

Riding a high-quality bike is important to have fun and progress safely.

The Cult Control includes these high-quality parts that make up its 5.8 Quality Score

  • Full Chromoly Frame
  • Some Chromoly Forks
  • Full Chromoly Bars
  • 1x Double Wall Cult Match rims
  • Fully Sealed Bearings

Should you get it the Cult Control

If you are a mid-level rider but your budget is a little lower than you care to admit.. this bike will be fine. I have nothing against this bike.. But the Kink Whip is the same price and has much better quality. The only reason to buy the Cult Control over the Kink Whip is because of the Control’s 20.75″ toptube which is better for taller riders than the Whip’s 20.5″ toptube.
