Overview

The 2022 Sunday Forecaster BMX Bike is the Maca Perez Grasset signature model featuring a pro park geometry. Sunday Lightning rims, Odyssey Gyro, and the Odyssey Springfield brake system with removable mounts are just a few of the aftermarket parts that can be found on this model. Every bearing is sealed meaning less maintenance and smooth rolling. An extremely agile geometry and low standover brings this bike to life at the skatepark. The Maca Perez Grasset signature model Sunday Forecaster provides the opportunity to ride like a pro for a fraction of the price.

Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length:  20.5″ – Learn what size is right for you here.Opens in a new tab.

Check the size guide to see if it’s right for you..

Getting a top tube that is taller than suggested will make the bike feel more controlled and less responsive

Getting a top tube size that is smaller than normal will make the bike feel a lot more snappy and responsive.

B: Chain Stay Length: 12.7″ – 13” – Learn About Chain Stays HereOpens in a new tab.

This is a SHORT chainstay.

A short chain stay makes the bike feel twitchy. Spins will be easy, but airing and jumping might feel hard to control.

A long chain stay will make the bike feel really controlled. Spins will feel sluggish, but manuals and air tricks will feel nice because it will be more stable.

C: Head Tube Angle: 75.5° – Learn About Head Tube Angles HereOpens in a new tab.

This is a STEEP headtube angle

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.625″

This is an AVERAGE bottom bracket

A low BB height will make the bike feel more stable since the height of your pedals and cranks are close to the ground.

A tall BB height will make the bike more snappy and responsive since you will be standing higher up off the ground.

F: Stand over height: 7.5″

This is a LOW standover height

A low standover will make tailwhips easier, but barspins harder.

A tall standover gives you more to pinch and grab when doing barspins & t-bogs.

Bar Geometry – Learn more hereOpens in a new tab.

G: Rise: 9″

This is an average rise

Riding a tall rise, will give you more leverage on the bike. Making it easier to pull back and lift the front wheel up.

H: Width: 28.75″

This is a NARROW width

Narrow bars make barspins easier.

Wide bars give you more control and stability when steering.

I: Backsweep:  12 Degrees

What does backsweep do?

As far as I know, there is a sweet spot for backsweep. Too much will make the bike feel weird, and too little will make the bike unstable. It seems like the sweet spot is around 11º to 12º. If you need something a little more aggressive and straight feeling, go for 10º, but only do this if 11º is uncomfortable.

J: Upsweep: 4 Degrees

What does upsweep do?

There is a lot of discussion about 1º upsweep vs. 4º upsweep. Some people are running experiments and testing if the greater upsweep will make drops feel better. It seems like a lot of street riders run 4º to 5º upsweep. This helps for wrist pain and lessens the impact of big drops.

Dougsterbob Score

Now everything above the line is pretty basic info. I break down the specs, geometry, and some highlights. But that doesn’t really help you find the right bike. So I created the Dougsterbob Score.

The scores for this bike are a result of comprehensive testing on the product. Every aspect of this bike has been carefully considered and compared to other BMX bikes. These scores will allow you to make a smart and confident decision when purchasing the bike.

What is it?

The Dougsterbob Score is taken from Doug Demaro’s “Doug Score” (He already had the name so I had to get creative with mine haha) Anyway, this assigns a score to the bike based on 20 different aspects. This way you will know exactly what this bike is good for and how it holds up.

Dougsterbob Value Factor

Value Factor: 7.74

Is the Sunday Forecaster Park bike a good value?

This Sunday forecaster park bike scored a 7.74 value factor. This means that it’s actually good value. For over $600 you’re getting a BMX bike with a full chromoly frame and some aftermarket parts. Now, there are better value options, but not many of them are gonna be park-specific like this bike. In all honesty, I was surprised to see the forecaster park score this high for the value.

Is the Sunday Forecaster Park bike a good bike?

Yes, the Sunday forecaster park is a good BMX bike. It’s almost mid-level quality, it’s going to be strong enough to withstand a decent amount of riding, and everything Sunday makes is literally so smooth and dialed that this bike will be no different. No, it’s not the best value but it is a good BMX bike.

Riding it at street spots

Street Score: 4.22

The Sunday forecaster park surprisingly scored a 4.22 in the street section. This is an adequate street score. It does not mean that this bike is designed for street riding but if you’d like to ride a little bit of street it certainly won’t be an issue. All you’ll need to do is purchase some pegs and some hub guards and maybe a sprocket with a bash guard and you will be good to go.

Is the Sunday Forecaster Park bike for street riding?

No. The Sunday forecaster park is not designed specifically for street riding. Like I mentioned above it’s totally possible to ride street on this bike if you make a few upgrades. But as it comes, right out of the box, it’s not built for riding Street.

Riding it at the Skatepark

Park Score: 7.95

The 2022 Sunday forecaster is built for riding at the skate park. So obviously it’s going to score 7.95 in the park section. You can make some more upgrades to make it a little bit better for park riding, but as it comes out of the box it’s a very solid choice.

This bike has a very responsive and snappy geometry which will allow you to do technical park tricks with ease. The 12.7 inch chain stay will feel very responsive for spins, while the 75.5° headtube angle will feel really responsive for cornering bowls found in the skate park.

Is the Sunday Forecaster Park bike good for riding skateparks?

Yes, the Sunday forecaster park is good for riding skate parks. Like I mentioned above, the snappy and responsive geometry will make riding skate parks feel like a dream. The bike has a Gyro so that you can do 1 million barspins without your brake cable getting tangled up. Overall for a beginner to mid level park rider this is a really good choice.

Riding it at the dirt jumps or pump track

Dirt Score: 3.59

The park version of the Sunday forecaster scored 3.59. This is a relatively low score since this bike is best for riding skate parks and not necessarily for riding dirt jumps. Because of the snappy geometry it’s going to be a little bit harder to upgrade this bike to perform well if you love to dirt jump. Your best bet would probably be to check out the dirt-specific bike and purchase that one.

Check out the WTP Revolver to see a dirt-specific bike. (Check it out hereOpens in a new tab.)

Is the Sunday Forecaster Park bike good for riding dirt jumps and pump tracks?

I would not recommend the Sunday forecaster park if you love riding dirt jumps. Now, if you ride skate parks primarily and sometimes ride dirt jumps or pump tracks this wouldn’t be a bad bike since the quality will be able to hold up to dirt riding. But like I mentioned before because of the geometry it’s not a very specific BMX bike.

Quality Score

Quality Score: 4.8

What about the Quality?

Sadly, the Sunday forecaster park BMX bike socred a 4.8 quality. This quality score is higher than some bikes because it does come with a full chromoly frame and some aftermarket parts. But cheaper bikes have scored higher in the quality section so this is a little bit disappointing.

The only time I would recommend anybody spending this much money on a bike with a quality score of 4.8 is when the bike is designed for a specific type of riding. Like this bike being designed for park-specific riding. Having a specialized utility makes a bike a little more valuable especially since park-specific bikes are few and far between.

Riding a high-quality bike is important to have fun and progress safely.

The Sunday Forecaster Park includes these high-quality parts that make up its 4.8 Quality Score

  • Full Chromoly Frame
  • Some Chromoly Forks
  • Odyssey Twisted PEdals
  • Sunday sabertooth sprocket
  • Fully Sealed Bearings

Should you get it the Sunday Forecaster Park bike

I only recommend this bike if your dream is to ride skate parks. For some people, this type of riding is the only thing that they wanna do. And if you’re one of those people spending this much money on a park specific bike it’s OK. You will really love how this bike feels in the skate park.

Now, if you’re not too sure what type of riding you like to do… then don’t get this bike. I do think it’s a little bit expensive for the level of quality that you get. Check out the dougsterbob scoresheetOpens in a new tab. to see which bikes are of better quality.
