Geometry and Sizing

Let’s talk about the sizing of this bike so you can decide if it will be the right size for your height. Check out the Dougsterbob Size guide to see what you need to be looking for when shopping for a new BMX bike.

The most common cause of failure in BMX is an improperly sized BMX bike.

Frame Size

Toptube Size21″
Height RecommendationOver 6′
Big Bike BackgroundOver 5′ 9″

Frame Geometry

Head Tube Angle75º
Standover Height9”
Chain Stay Length13.2”
Bottom Bracket Height11.6”

This is a really standard geometry. This bike does a good job of balancing responsiveness with stability. For a new rider, getting a geometry like this will help them progress early on and understand how bikes feel.

Other Geometry

Fork Offset30mm
Bar Rise9”
Bar WidthTBD
Crank Length170mm
Stem Specs50mm Reach Maybe?
Gear Ratio25/9 Freetoaster

The fork offset makes the Salvador FC feel pretty stable. Since this bike is 1″ toptube, it is safe to assume that people over 6′ will be riding it. If you’re a real tall rider, you MIGHT enjoy getting taller bars with this bike. 9″ is pretty average with taller riders opting for 9.5″ or 10″ bars.

Quality & Weight Limit

The quality determines how long your bike will last and how it will hold up to certain levels of riding. Get the highest quality bike that you can afford because this will increase it’s longevity.

Quality Score4.2
Weight LimitUnder 160 lbs

Main Component Quality

FrameChromoly Toptube, Downtube, and Seat tube. Hi-tensile steel head tube and chainstay
ForksHi-tensile steel legs with chromoly steer tube,
BarsFull Chromoly – 4 pc bars
Cranks8 spline, 3 pc cranks, full chromoly
RimsRant Squad, alloy, single wall

The main components are of decent quality. The cranks will last a fairly good amount of time, the bars will also last pretty well. My main concern is the single wall rims bending, the back end of the frame banding, and the hi-tensile steel legs bending.

Street2.89

Because of the geometry, the Salvador FC is better for riding dirt, with street coming in as a close second. To make this bike better for street riding, get some pegs and hub guards.

Conclusion

I don’t really recommend this bike unless you are a tall rider looking for a cheap freetoaster bike. The next best option with a freecoaster for a tall rider is the Kink Switch for $600 it’s 20.75″ and has a freecoaster. If you are taller and can’t afford the $600 switch, this is the best choice for you. But I’m a bit disappointed with the high price. Let me help you find the perfect bike…

My parents bought me my first BMX bike in 2011 and it changed my life. This bike has taken me all over the world and introduced me to cool places and cooler people. My goal is to help get 1,000,000 people into BMX so they can experience the joy and freedom that comes from a progression based sport.
