#1 Tip for landing a Crankflip on your BMX Bike

The Crankflip is an entry-level street trick for BMX riders. They will want to learn how to crankflip to add it into more technical combos. This trick is fairly simple. To crankflip, you need to hop in the air, point the toes on your front foot DOWN, and flick the cranks.

1. Are you set up for success?

Some bikes will be hard to crankflip. If you do not have a few things right, you’ll be fighting an uphill battle.

  • Greased bottom bracket – Your cranks need to spin freely when you throw them by hand
  • Loose enough chain – If your chain is too tight, you won’t be able to flick the cranks around
  • Good grip on pedals – If your feet slip, you can’t flick the trick

Making sure that your bike is set up right is the first step to getting this trick.

2. The Flick

Practice this part of the trick without hopping. Just cruise on the bike, point the toes down, and flick it. Working on this without the hop will make you more comfortable with the motions.

3. Add it all together

Now do what you were doing in step 2, but do it after you hop in the air. This will take some practice and some work. Be patient and eventually, you will get it.

My parents bought me my first BMX bike in 2011 and it changed my life. This bike has taken me all over the world and introduced me to cool places and cooler people. My goal is to help get 1,000,000 people into BMX so they can experience the joy and freedom that comes from a progression based sport.
