Why Douglas Is a Good Fit

Hey Caleb! Thanks for taking a look at my work.

I’ve created this page to be a resume of sorts. I want to highlight my skills and what I am familiar with. It’s a bit lengthy because I don’t want to leave any questions unanswered and I know some of it will be interesting to you. Please look through it to ensure that my talents will fit well with the team. If you decide that I can be a fit, let’s chat!

You can go hereOpens in a new tab. to book a video meeting with me. This is easy to align both of our calendars, or just hit me back on Instagram and I can give you my cell.

About Me

I’m a 26 year old BMX nerd. I’m fortunate enough to have found a passion in my teens that kept me on a good path in life and allowed me to find my personal limits. I dreamed to go pro but knew I needed a backup. I graduated from my early college high school in 2015 with a creative media degree from the community college but didn’t put it to use until 2018 after reading Crushing It.

In early 2018 I started Dougsterbob.com as a blog to follow my BMX journey and my life. I quickly realized that no one cared because I hadn’t offered any value to them. I spent the next year researching blogging and SEO. My blog pivoted to a site that aimed to help a million people get into the sport of BMX and traffic went from 10 pageviews a month to 20k page views a month.

That convinced me that value-based marketing was the way to go. I continued to grow the site and started adding videos to my youtube channel to compliment the blog. I started the blog initially because I hated the idea of talking on camera.

Below is a 15-second clip of one of my first cringy videos

I stumbled across Gary V’s content model and used that to pump out crazy amounts of content in a short time. It helped me go from 400 subs to 18k over two years in a very closed-off niche.

below is a more recent clip to show the growth

Currently, I’m diversifying my brand to move my personal channel to have me as the main character instead of the bikes and products I talk about. I’m having a fun time learning how to build a tribe of super fans and I’m really interested in learning more about maximizing content reach and monetizing a personal brand.

Unique Strategies

Early on I started doing Q&A live streams to mirror popular creators and this was my plan to get my 4000 watch hours. During my first live stream I made up questions in case no one showed up. Now I’m around 500-1000 comments per stream.

The streams have become a crucial part of my channel since I find the good sections of it and clip them into 2-5 minute videos for their own upload. I realize only a small percent of people will actually see the whole hour-long stream so I’m doing my community a service by clipping these videos.

Content Workflow

Weekly Q & A gets cut to remove gaps and good clips get exported as a standalone video

Clips over a minute go back to premiere to get intro/outro/broll added

Clips under a minute go back to premiere to get intro/outro/broll added and turned into 9:16 ratio

Slap on a unique thumbnail and I’m good to go

These videos get linked to my website and I write a short blog post about them

Alongside that, I’ll film and document each session when I go ride my bike and these get turned into weekly progression videos. Kind of a vlog/voiceover crossover. These give me unlimited clips for my social media since I get clips of me riding and that’s the short content people want to see.

Bread and Butter

I have a pretty psycho email funnel too and this is where a majority of my income is from. But I basically help people buy the right bike and give them the option to get a recommendation from me. They give me some more information about themselves and my funnel puts them into the right email sequence based on the information. It took a long time to fine-tune since there are hundreds of different configurations.

They request a recommendation

Multiple automation’s based on height

Multiple emails based on even more info

This funnel gives me the opportunity to help my community and collect a potential affiliate sale. Clicking the link is the only way to see the #1, #2, and #3 recommendations.

Follow up with questions

There’s also an option for them to video call me if they have any more questions. THIS IS NOT SCALABLE. But I love having the opportunity to chat with people who watch my content and they find a lot of value in it.

Online Course

I started an online course a year ago to offer even more to my community. I wanted to help them progress after they got into BMX. So Bike School was born.

Skills

WordPress/Blogging – Learned on my own because I was not about to pay $99 to have my first site set up.

Shopify – I don’t know anything about coding with liquid but I use shopify daily and set my site up on my own.

Premiere Pro & Basic After Effects – I use After Effects when I have to but I’m no wizard. Very competent with Premiere since I use it daily. I also key and use greenscreen footage periodically.

Teachable/Course Creation – I built my course on teachable from the ground up with one other person. It was about a 6-month project to set up the site, script, film, edit, and launch.

Email Marketing/Convertkit – Organic funnel that adds ~ 30/day to my email list while bringing in $$

Community Building – After reading Tribes, Contagious, and This is Marketing, I decided that this aspect of a brand is one of the most important and I have dedicated a lot of time to learning more about it.
