The 2020 Altus Bike by Subrosa is an entry-level bike designed for new riders. The point of this bike is to get people into the sport by offering an affordable bike option. The bad news is that these bikes aren’t always designed to last.

Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length:  20″ – Learn what size is right for you here.Opens in a new tab.

This is a small toptube.

Perfect for riders that are between 5’0″ to 5’6″

B: Chain Stay Length: 13.25” – Learn About Chain Stays HereOpens in a new tab.

This is a longer chain stay! This will give you more control and stability.

C: Head Tube Angle: 75° – Learn About Head Tube Angles HereOpens in a new tab.

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.7″

F: Stand over height: 8″

This is a medium standover.

A tall standover gives you more stability and will make bars, and t-bogs easier.

2020 Subrosa Altus Price

One of the cheapest bmx bikes in 2020. It is made out of lower quality parts in order to keep it cheap. However it is still a step higher than department store bikes.

2020 Subrosa Altus Quality

The quality of the Altus is pretty low. This is how they keep it affordable. The point of a low-quality bike is to make it affordable for new riders. The high tensile frame bars and forks can bend over time, and single wall rims don’t last to big drops. That’s why this is only a good bike for beginners.

Highlights

Good for beginners

The bike is cheap and lower quality. Which makes it perfect for a brand new rider who wants to get a new bmx bike without spending a bunch of money.

Lowlights

Not build to last.

To be honest, the bike will last a new rider a year or so depending on how hard and how often you ride. But once you progress to a mid or high-level rider, the bike will break.

Buy if you are learning:

  • 180
  • 360 taps
  • fakie tricks
  • footjam

Don’t buy if you are learning:

  • flips
  • tailwhip
  • 720
  • huge drops
  • big 360

2020 Subrosa Altus Conclusion

I think the Altus is good for a first bike. But after that, you will need to look at grabbing a better quality bike. Use this bike to learn tricks like bunnyhop, 180, and manuals. The geometry makes it better to learn these tricks on.
