2021 Fit TRL 2XL Review

3.0 rating

Fit’s 2021 TRL (2XL) bike has a lot of unique specs and parts that most complete bikes are missing out on. Some of these parts include a bigger sprocket for higher top speed, brakes, and a mellow 74.5º headtube. The Fit TRL XL weighs 26.9 lbs and comes in two color options. The 21.25″ top tube makes it one of the biggest top tubes available on a complete.

Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length:  21″ – Learn what size is right for you here.

This is a tall toptube.

Perfect for riders that are between 5’8″ to 6’4″

Getting a top tube that is taller than suggested will make the bike feel more controlled and less responsive

Getting a top tube size that is smaller than normal will make the bike feel a lot more snappy and responsive.

B: Chain Stay Length: 13.8” – Learn About Chain Stays Here

This is an extremely long chain stay.

This will make the bike feel very controlled.

A short chain stay makes the bike feel twitchy. Spins will be easy, but airing and jumping might feel hard to control.

A long chain stay will make the bike feel really controlled. Spins will feel sluggish, but manuals and air tricks will feel nice because it will be more stable and controlled.

C: Head Tube Angle: 74.5° – Learn About Head Tube Angles Here

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.75″

F: Stand over height: 9″

This is a medium standover.

A tall standover gives you more stability and will make bars, and t-bogs easier.

Price

This bike is right under $450. To me that is a little over priced for a bike that only has a chromoly front triangle and single wall rims.

Quality

This is a beginner bike with entry-level parts. I would not recommend this bike if you are an experienced rider.

Here’s why it is lower quality:

Buy if you are learning:

  • 1 hander
  • x-up
  • dirt gaps
  • no handers
  • can-can

Don’t buy if you are learning:

  • 360
  • big drops
  • tail whips
  • bar spins
  • grinding hand rails

Conclusion

The 2XL version of the Fit TRL bike is built for a rider that wants to spend a lot of time roasting dirt jumps. With the dirt specific geometry and parts, getting this bike means that you will have a harder time progressing at the park or street. With that being said, you will have a lot more fun on dirt. It’s a little overpriced in my opinion, but there are almost 0 trail-specific BMX bikes. The tall top tube will feel really stable and controlled.

Common Questions

  • Where can I buy this bike? I am an affiliate of sourcebmx.com and always recommend them. Source is rider owned and they do so much for BMX by hosting events and sponsoring riders. Did I mention the ship ANYWHERE in the world? Buy the bike here
  • Is this bike for park, dirt, or street? The Fit TRL 2XL is mostly for dirt riding. While you can ride park and street on it, you will have a harder time progressing.
  • How much does it weigh? 26.9 lbs
