Subrosa will come up a lot as an option for a brand new BMX bike. Their 2022 line has many different options that range in quality, size, and geometry. My goal is to help you find a bike that will be perfect for you. It is confusing when shopping for a bike so reading through this will give you a good idea as to which bike might be right for you.
The Novus is the highest quality option and the Altus is the lowest quality. You will find bikes anywhere in between $400 and $1200. Let’s take a quick look at these bikes to find you the right one.
Don’t forget to request a recommendation from me. I’ll find 3 perfect bikes for you and send them to you. This will save you so much time. Click here to request a recommendation.

1. Subrosa Altus
The 2022 Subrosa Altus is an entry-level BMX bike from Subrosa. It’s low quality, light, and cheap so that a new rider can get on the bike and get started right away. The Altus weighs 26.2 lbs and costs $439.
Quality
Frame | 100% Hi-tensile Steel |
Forks | Hi-tensile steel, star cap, 2 pc steer tube, tapered legs |
Bars | hi-tensile steel, 2-pc |
Cranks | 8 spline, 3 pc cranks, chromoly |
Rims | Rant Squad, alloy, single wall |
I only recommend the Altus for a brand-new rider. The quality is low and for this low quality, I think the price is kind of high. It will serve as a decent bike if the rider is lightweight and new to the sport, but to be honest, you can spend a bit more money and get something way better quality.
2. Subrosa Tiro
The 2022 Subrosa Tiro is a slight bump in quality from the Altus. But it’s still not great. The biggest difference here is the addition of 3 more size options. The Tiro is available in 20.5″, 20.75″, 21″ and 21.3″ toptubes. The 21.3″ toptube is the longest that you can get on any complete BMX bike. The Tiro weighs 27.8 lbs and will cost $439.
Quality
Frame | Chromoly Toptube, Downtube and Seatube. Hi-tensile steel head tube and chainstay |
Forks | Hi-tensile steel, chromoly steer tube, |
Bars | Full Chromoly – 2 pc bars |
Cranks | 8 spline, 3 pc cranks, chromoly |
Rims | Rant Squad, alloy, single wall |
The Tiro rarely is recommended unless the rider is super tall and brand new to the sport. The low quality on a 21″ bike makes me nervous since taller riders tend to weigh more and I expect a lot of broken 21″ tiro’s. The Tiro is barely priced under the Kink Whip and the quality is so much worse.
3. Subrosa Salvador/XL
The Subrosa Salvador is a really popular model due to the $500 price point. This bike has some chromly making it a better option than most entry-level bikes. The Salvador has a number of variations in color and utility. You may see an XL version which means it has a tall 21″ toptube.
Quality
Frame | Chromoly Toptube, Downtube and Seatube. Hi-tensile steel head tube and chainstay |
Forks | Hi-tensile steel, chromoly steer tube, |
Bars | Full Chromoly – 2 pc bars |
Cranks | 8 spline, 3 pc cranks, chromoly |
Rims | Rant Squad, alloy, single wall |
I will recommend the Salvador sometimes but I’m more inclined to recommend the Salvador Park or FC since they have a specific utility. One thing I’d like to see in 2023 is a lower price for the Salvador because I think $500 is too much to ask for a bike with this quality.
4. Subrosa Salvador Park
The Subrosa Salvador park is a really cool park-specific bike. It’s one of the higher-quality park-specific options right behind the WTP Versus. This bike has a gyro brake system along with a more responsive frame geometry. The Park version of the Salvador weighs 25.8 lbs and costs $519.
Quality
Frame | Chromoly Toptube, Downtube and Seatube. Hi-tensile steel head tube and chainstay |
Forks | Hi-tensile steel, chromoly steer tube, |
Bars | Full Chromoly – 2 pc bars |
Cranks | 8 spline, 3 pc cranks, chromoly |
Rims | Rant Squad, alloy, single wall |
When I have someone come to me looking for a fairly affordable park-specific bike, I point them to the Salvador Park. It has some chromoly in the frame, forks, and full chromoly bars. Overall it’s a fair choice for just a little over $500.
4. Subrosa Salvador FC
The Subrosa Salvador FC is very similar to the Subrosa Salvador and Salvador XL. The main difference is a freecoaster hub that allows you to fakie without pedaling backward. Most street riders enjoy using a freecoaster while riding. This is one of the most affordable freecoaster bmx bikes. The Salvador FC weighs 26.4 lbs and will cost you $529.
Quality
Frame | Chromoly Toptube, Downtube and Seatube. Hi-tensile steel head tube and chainstay |
Forks | Hi-tensile steel, chromoly steer tube, |
Bars | Full Chromoly – 4 pc bars |
Cranks | 8 spline, 3 pc cranks, chromoly |
Rims | Rant Squad, alloy, single wall |
I don’t recommend the Salvador FC very often since the Kink Gap FC is of similar quality for a lower price. One unique thing about this bike is the 21″ toptube, so I will recommend it if the rider is too tall for the Kink Gap FC but still wants to ride a freecoaster bike.
5. Subrosa Letum
The 2022 Subrosa Letum is a street-specific BMX bike. It is equipped with 4 pegs, hubguards, and a freecoaster. This sets it up for a rider to get on and start shredding street right away. It’s a very heavy bike but comes in at a decent price. The thing that surprises me the most is that it has full chromoly everything and double wall rims. Subrosa’s Letum weighs 28.4 lbs and costs $629.
Quality
Frame | Full Chromoly Frame |
Forks | Full Chromoly Forks |
Bars | Full Chromoly – 4 pc bars |
Cranks | AM Rant Banging 8 spline, 3 pc cranks, chromoly |
Rims | Rant Squad, alloy, double wall – pinned seam |
The Letum shows up on the Free Bike Recommendations quite a bit. I’m impressed with the quality and the utility. Whenever I see a bike designed for a specific style of riding, I get excited. Since the Letum has 4 pegs and hubguard, it is already way ahead of other bikes in the price range, and the full chromoly is just the cherry on top. However, the sizing of the bike might not be right for you.
6. Subrosa Malum
The 2022 Subrosa Malum is higher quality than the Letum, but it does not have a specific utility. The Malum is a pretty well-rounded bike that really shines in Dirt. This is due to the longer chainstay and the lack of pegs. I’m impressed with the aftermarket parts found on the Malum. The Subrosa Malum weighs 26.2 LBS and costs $659.
Quality
Frame | Full Chromoly Frame |
Forks | Full Chromoly Forks |
Bars | Full Chromoly – 2 pc bars |
Cranks | AM Rant Banging 8 spline, 3 pc cranks, chromoly |
Rims | Rant Squad, alloy, double wall – pinned seam |
I do like the quality of the malum, but it’s not specific enough for me to recommend it very often. For a rider who wants a pretty good quality mid-level bike, this is a good choice. But most riders will want a bike that is good for one type of riding or another and this bike isn’t it. You need to do your own research on this bike before you purchase it, so click the link below.
7. Subrosa Novus
The 2022 Subrosa Novus is Subrosa’s most expensive bike in their 2022 bike line. It has a few aftermarket parts and a lot of chromoly. Overall, this is a high-quality bike. It comes in a tall top tube for a crazy price. The Novus is a $1200 BMX bike that weighs 25.9 lbs.
Quality
Frame | Full Chromoly Frame – Butted TT and DT |
Forks | AM Subrosa Simo Forks – 1 pc inc steertube – heat treated |
Bars | Full Chromoly – 2 pc bars |
Cranks | Subrosa Big Bitching – Full chromoly – 48 spline |
Rims | Shadow Truss Rim – double wall – welded seam |
The 2022 Subrosa Novus is really disappointing to me. It’s overpriced and for that reason, it almost never makes it on the free bike recommendation. My goal is to help you find a good bike that is a good value, and this bike is not it. Looking at only quality, it’s a pretty good bike. I like the aftermarket parts and the chromoly frame, but it’s only .4 points higher in quality and twice the price of the malum. Crazy.
These are all of the 2022 Subrosa bikes in the Subrosa lineup. Some of these bikes are amazing, and some are severely overpriced. Check out the video above to see the in-depth reviews for each of them.
